About J-TEA
J-TEA
imports directly from small farms. We personally visit these
farms. Tea is an agricultural product and it changes from year to
year and from season to season. Thus, it is critical that we
visit the farms and try each tea onsite before importing the tea into
the US. In addition, starting in the spring of 2008 we began
sending the tea we import to a lab in Taiwan to test for pesticides and
heavy metals. Once the tea is declared pesticide and heavy metal
free, we import the tea into the US where we wholesale to high-end tea
shops throughout North America as well as sell retail through the J-TEA
tea house in Eugene, Oregon and at the website
jteainternational.com. During the past year, we have started
providing tea to high-end health-food supermarkets in the Eugene
area. We are a small company that has shown steady growth.
We hope to grow into a sustainable company that offers great teas with
excellent service.
Josh Chamberlain, the “J” behind J-TEA, is very familiar with Taiwan.
While living there for six years, he earned a MBA from National Cheng
Kung University. He was the second non-Taiwan native to have
graduated from that program. It was during this period of his
life that he fell in love with the tea of Taiwan. He found tea
masters with whom he continues to study and he started making trips to
the mountains to buy tea directly from the farmers. Besides
getting a master's degree in business, he also actively learned martial
arts and tea culture in the age old system of the student master
relationship. Since moving back to the United States in August of
2005, he has made 2 to 3 trips to Taiwan per year in order to learn
more about tea as well as select premium teas for J-TEA. Due to
his familiarity with Taiwan, and the enduring relationships he has
developed there, as well as his understanding of the language and
culture, he has a unique advantage. As a result, he has access to
unique and remote places and is able to travel to many areas on any
particular buying trip allowing J-TEA to have some of the best oolongs
Taiwan has to offer.
It is our mission to provide great tea and great service. We enjoyed
sharing tea culture in North America as we feel it is a great tool in
developing mindfulness. Tea is very sensitive and as a result the
attention given to making a cup of tea will have a great influence over
its quality. Tea encourages mindfulness, creativity and
communication. These are just a few of the benefits one can
achieve by making and drinking tea.
We now have a tasting room in Eugene, Oregon. If you're in the Eugene
area, please stop by. We look forward to sharing a cup of tea with you.
What Makes J-Tea Unique?
Because
of the variation in regions and the seasonal differences in the teas we
offer, some of our teas are available only in limited quantities and
for limited times. For these highly specialized teas, once that tea is
sold out, it is gone forever.
