| Puer
also spelled Puerh, Pu’er, Pu-er In the past few years Puer
has become one of the most sought after teas in the world. It is
a tea that only improves with age. Puer is divided into two main
camps, that which has been through “wo dui fa xiao”
(wet storage) and that which hasn’t (dry storage). Dry storage
Puer is also referred to as green Puer, sheng Puer, or raw Puer.
”Wo dui fa xiao” is the storage
of Puer in artificially humidified climates to speed up the oxidization
process. Some say this is a business person’s way to make
a quick buck. Tea that has been through this process will be black
even when it is not so old, say after 3 years. This version of Puer
will continue to improve with age until about the twenty year mark.
At this time, the tea has post oxidized to its peak, and will no
longer to continue to improve with age.
Green Puer will slowly change from green
to brown to black. It will continue to improve with age until it
reaches around 100 years. Serious Puer drinkers tend to prefer aged
green Puer for this reason. All of the Puers carried by J-Tea are
dry storage Puers.
